Acupuncture Kelowna:

Precision needling rooted in traditional Chinese medicine — delivered by a practitioner who also holds advanced training in anatomy, fascial therapy, and neuromuscular rehabilitation.

What Can Acupuncture Help With?

Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points in the body to restore balance, reduce inflammation, calm the nervous system, and improve circulation. Lauren’s dual background makes her especially effective with musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.

Neck & Back Pain

Acupuncture works by stimulating specific points in the body to restore balance, reduce inflammation, calm the nervous system, and improve circulation. Lauren’s dual background makes her especially effective with musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.

Sciatica & Nerve Pain

Electro-acupuncture and precise anatomical needling can calm irritated nerve pathways and reduce radiating pain down the leg.

Shoulder & Postural Dysfunction

Fascial integration techniques and muscle-focused needling restore range of motion and address the mechanics of poor posture.

Headaches & Migraines

Scalp and meridian-based acupuncture effectively reduces headache frequency and intensity, including tension-type and migraine headaches.

Hip & Knee Conditions

From osteoarthritic pain to post-surgical recovery, acupuncture supports tissue healing, reduces swelling, and restores movement.

Sports Injuries

Whether it’s a strain, overuse injury, or performance limitation, Lauren’s sports injury focus accelerates recovery and restores functional movement.

Stress, Anxiety & Insomnia

Nervous system dysregulation responds well to acupuncture. Many patients notice improved sleep and reduced anxiety within just a few sessions.

Women's Health

Hormonal balance, cycle regulation, and scar rehabilitation including C-section recovery are all areas of special clinical focus.

Meet Your Acupuncturist

Huiping (Lauren) Hu, RAc

Lauren brings a rare combination to her practice: the philosophical depth of Traditional Chinese Medicine alongside the clinical precision of a practitioner trained in anatomy, fascial assessment, and neuromuscular rehabilitation.

Before becoming a Registered Acupuncturist, Lauren practiced as a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) in Alberta — giving her a structural, hands-on understanding of the body that directly informs every treatment.

At LifeWorks, her work integrates seamlessly with our chiropractic team, creating a genuinely collaborative approach to your recovery and long-term health.

Treatment Approach

More than Needles

Lauren’s toolkit goes well beyond traditional acupuncture. Each session is built around your specific clinical picture — using the right combination of techniques to get results faster.

1
Meridian, Abdominal & Scalp Acupuncture

Traditional TCM acupuncture techniques applied with modern anatomical precision, including specialized protocols for neurological and systemic conditions.

2
Electro-Acupuncture

Low-level electrical stimulation enhances the therapeutic effect — particularly effective for pain modulation, neuromuscular re-education, and stubborn chronic conditions.

3
Fascial Integration & Functional Needling

Drawing on her RMT background, Lauren incorporates fascial release principles into her needling — addressing the connective tissue matrix that wraps every muscle and organ.

4
Cupping, Dynamic Cupping & Gua Sha

Suction-based therapies to improve circulation, release deep myofascial tension, and accelerate tissue recovery. Dynamic cupping combines movement with decompression for improved mobility outcomes.

Why Choose LifeWorks

Acupuncture That Works Within a Complete Care System

Getting acupuncture at LifeWorks isn’t just about a single treatment. It’s about access to a fully integrated health team working toward one shared goal: your recovery and long-term wellbeing.

Integrated Chiropractic Team

Lauren works directly alongside our chiropractors. When your spine, nervous system, and soft tissue are all being addressed together, outcomes improve significantly.

RMT Background — Unique in Kelowna

Lauren has experience treating MVA injuries including whiplash, soft tissue damage, and nerve-related symptoms. We’ll help you understand your coverage and get started quickly.

The LifeWorks Difference

Acupuncture + Chiropractic: A Clinically Powerful Combination

Pain and dysfunction rarely have a single cause. That’s why the most effective care plans address structure, neurology, and soft tissue at the same time.

When your chiropractor adjusts your spine and Lauren follows up by releasing the surrounding musculature and calming nervous system sensitization, the results compound. Both disciplines reinforce each other — which is why integrated clinics consistently produce better outcomes than standalone single-provider practices.

  • Chiropractic corrects structural alignment; acupuncture releases the muscular holding patterns that keep you misaligned
  • Acupuncture calms the nervous system; chiropractic restores the neurological pathways that acupuncture depends on
  • Combined care reduces total treatment time and produces more durable results
  • Shared clinical notes mean Lauren and your chiropractor are always on the same page about your case

"I am committed to helping patients not only relieve symptoms, but restore function, improve resilience, and achieve long-term health and well-being."

Conditions treated across both disciplines at LifeWorks:

  • Chronic spinal pain and postural dysfunction
  • Sciatica, radiculopathy, peripheral nerve pain
  • ICBC and sports injury recovery
  • Headaches and TMJ-related tension
  • Stress and nervous system dysregulation
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation

Frequently Asked Questions

Acupuncture needles are extremely fine — much thinner than a hypodermic needle. Most people feel little to nothing on insertion. You may feel a mild ache, warmth, or tingling at certain points, which is a normal therapeutic response. Lauren's approach is gentle and always calibrated to your comfort level.
It depends on how long you've had the condition and how your body responds. Acute injuries often resolve in 4–6 sessions. Chronic conditions typically benefit from a longer initial course of 8–12 sessions, followed by periodic maintenance. Lauren will discuss a realistic plan with you after your first assessment.
Most extended health insurance plans in BC cover acupuncture by a Registered Acupuncturist. Coverage amounts vary by plan. We recommend calling your provider to confirm your annual limit. ICBC injury claims can also include acupuncture treatment.
Lauren will begin with a thorough clinical assessment — reviewing your health history, asking detailed questions about your symptoms, and performing a physical evaluation of posture, movement, and relevant tissue quality. She'll then explain her findings and her proposed treatment approach before your first needling session begins.
Absolutely — and at LifeWorks, this is one of the most powerful combinations we offer. The two disciplines work synergistically. Many of our patients see Dr. James, Dr. Jeff, or Dr. Vincenzo on the same day or in alternating appointments with Lauren. Our team communicates directly to coordinate your care.
Electro-acupuncture uses the same fine needles as traditional acupuncture, with a small, gentle electrical current passed between pairs of needles. The current enhances stimulation, making it particularly effective for chronic pain, nerve-related conditions, and accelerating muscle recovery. It is not painful — the sensation is typically described as mild tingling or pulsing.
